What Makes a CIty
This thesis explores how visual elements such as color, typography within a neighborhood collectively shape its identity and communicate its distinct character. It examines how these design features emerge from cultural, historical, and social contexts, and how they function as visual cues that influence perception. Furthermore, the study investigates how such elements affect people’s emotional connections to a place, shaping their sense of belonging, memory, and attachment, and ultimately contributing to the way neighborhoods are experienced and understood.
