Boarding Intelligence System
Boarding Intelligence System (B.I.S.) is designed to eliminate boarding inefficiencies by transforming uncertainty around carry-on luggage space into real-time, actionable intelligence.

Air travel operates as a tightly synchronized system where even minor disruptions can cascade into costly delays. Boarding is one of the most time-sensitive phases of turnaround, with aisle congestion—largely caused by passengers stowing carry-on luggage—being a primary source of inefficiency. Field observations and industry interviews revealed a critical gap: passengers, gate agents, and crew lack shared visibility into overhead bin capacity, leading to reactive decisions, last-minute bag checks, and delayed departures.

B.I.S. addresses this through a connected system of:

  • Pre-boarding carry-on fit verification (does your bag fit?)

  • Real-time bin capacity sensing (is there space left?)

  • Predictive multi-channel communication (what should you do, and when?)

By aligning passenger behavior with operational needs before congestion occurs, B.I.S. shifts boarding from reactive to proactive. The result is reduced delays, improved passenger confidence, and stronger operational performance—demonstrating how design can optimize both experience and efficiency at scale.

B.I.S. is airline-agnostic; United Airlines was used as a conceptual framework.
