Tension to Transformation
My work explores dissonance within self: a deeper knowledge of contradiction in our ideas and values that results from self-awareness. It can be formed by time, experiences, or beliefs. The way we deal with these tensions can transform us completely. There are themes of negotiation, erasure, and resolution. My methods of practice include the design of posters, sculptural type artifacts, zines, collages, and light.

I am interested in this because my faith is central to my identity, and it affects the way I develop and grow as a person. There is a figurative way of speaking about the process of growth for a Christian. It is described as the new self fighting the old self, an 'internal battle.' Dissonance in thoughts, beliefs, and values within the self is a universal human experience that, in the Christian perspective, grants transformation, allowing growth to reflect the divine. Importantly, design can open a window to help us better understand, solve, or find relief from such tensions. Through various typographic explorations, I analyze how external phrases and ideas impact and disrupt our internal monologue.
