Surrender
This thesis explores the tension between perfectionism and surrender, and the ways in which fear, doubt, and the need for control prevent people from pursuing the things they've always wanted to do or become. Through street interviews with strangers — people with no prior relationship to me and no reason to filter themselves — I ask about the desires they've acted on, abandoned, or never started. Their unscripted responses form the foundation of the work. These interviews are translated into two forms: a book of quotes capturing their words as spoken, and a dance film that uses movement to visualize the push and pull between perfectionism and surrender — expressing through a new medium what words alone cannot.
