Axopal
Axopal is a handheld axolotl-inspired fidget and scent device designed to interrupt habitual phone-grab behavior during everyday moments of pause. Many small pauses throughout the day, such as waiting in line, riding transit, or moving between tasks, are often filled with impulsive scrolling that fragments attention and reduces mental rest.

This project responds to that pattern by offering a calming alternative through tactile interaction, sensory engagement, and customizable scent. Combining fidget-based movement with emotional connection and fragrance, the device transforms idle moments into intentional sensory rituals that encourage users to pause, self-regulate, and reconnect with the present.

Beyond simply replacing phone use, Axopal reframes downtime as an opportunity for restoration rather than distraction, inspired by the axolotl’s ability to regenerate its tail. Through tactile fidgeting and scent-based interaction, it proposes a more mindful relationship with everyday pauses, highlighting how small, physical interactions can support emotional regulation, restore focus, and encourage presence in daily life.
