Modular Building
Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, derives its name from “ori” (to fold) and “kami” (paper). Although paper originated in China, it was introduced to Japan by Buddhist monks in the 6th century A.D., where origami began to develop as a cultural art form. Over time, it has spread globally, evolving from traditional ceremonial practices to everyday activities such as elementary school paper airplanes and fortune tellers.

Historically, when instructions are given, individual interpretation leads to variations in execution and outcomes. The subtle differences in these executions are where new ideas inevitably form into unique methodologies and art forms.

This raises the question, how do differing interpretations of the same algorithmic rule reshape an origami structure based on the identity, perspective, and decisions of the builder, and how can this project investigate and reveal those variations through modular construction?
