Stories and Systems: The Refugee Lived Experience
As of June 2025, 36% of displaced people are refugees, this numbers out to 42.5 million individuals. A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. In most cases, they either cannot return home or are afraid to do so. Refugees are not mere bodies in a camp, in fact, approximately 78% of refugees live in cities; They are our neighbors, friends, and colleagues. By uncovering refugees’ lived experiences, storytelling can be used to discredit harmful narratives and spotlight suppressed voices.
Perspective: A Game of Thought is an informational card deck that facilitates user learning of refugees’ lived experience. The goal of the game is to hear from firsthand accounts, subject matter experts, and secondary statistics. By the end of the game, users should have a learned perspective of refugees and their life.
