My area of interest lies in street art and graffiti, any form of art done within the streets, with or without regard for the law. Within the project I will be taking a look at graffiti and street art locally within Chicago. These forms of art have historically had many purposes, whether it be someone who just wants to vandalize a wall, an activist voicing their message, or even a company making an advertisement. Specifically, I will delve into why people do graffiti, and the connections between graffiti and traditional design/ advertising, and how graffiti manifests itself as an anti-capitalist form of advertisement.
