this or that
My work investigates the dichotomy of the analog and the digital. Dichotomy is described as “a division or contrast between two things that are represented as being opposed or entirely different.” However, when one casts their eyes upon the contrast of analog and digital outputs, a conversation is sparked about how the opposing subjects might converge and create a hybrid. My interest in this is motivated by the continuous digitization of our world.

Over time, lifestyles, products, and processes have shifted from tangible to digital. This reality evokes one question: can we, as humans, sustainably thrive on the singularity of digital solutions? This question prompts me to look to slower, analog processes of the past to sustain balance in my work as a designer.

In life, we are constantly prompted to make a choice between this or that. This act contradicts our very makeup as humans. We and our environment are a concoction of converging elements. In this light, we can investigate the opposition of the analog and digital. As a result, we find the relevance of each and how to reconcile them in tandem with one another.
