From the Page to the Screen
One of the most popular and impactful methods of disseminating ideas and culture is cinema. With a deep passion for film as an art form, From the Page to the Screen examines African American racial stereotypes and caricatures through film, and how they have changed and persisted over time. The ways that African American people have been depicted through cinema have had a profound impact on the way that Black people are seen in America and worldwide. As an African American, I have noticed the ways some people interact with me and appear to be influenced by preconceived notions not rooted in personal experiences.

My methods of working include researching, writing, publication design and poster design. This work is important to me because even though racial caricatures have been extensively discussed in literature, less attention has been given to the way these stereotypes persist in modern cinema, in more subtle ways. The hope is that viewers encounter my work and become more critically aware of how the films they consume shape their perceptions of people, identity, and race.
