Fuck The System
My thesis work focuses on graffiti street art and expressive lettering. Graffiti is ephemeral and defiant; it challenges the system and pushes the boundaries of letterforms to their limits. It serves as a powerful form of personal expression through lettering.
Graffiti represents our shared ephemerality in life; it often appears fleetingly, in hidden spots, or gets covered up by the city. What remains is the wonder of witnessing it in the moment, knowing that it may vanish tomorrow. It is eye-catching and unique, elevated beyond the mundane; it challenges the conventional boundaries of type design.
The ephemerality of graffiti represents the fact that nothing in life is permanent; our connections with people and the things around us have a lingering expiration that is unknown to us. Yet part of us will always exist stamped in that moment of time.
My thesis work embodies who I am and what I represent. My thesis serves as a lasting marker that will survive the moment it was made and beyond the initial quick viewing of a piece. My thesis work aims to alter how people perceive their environment, challenge societal systems, and slow down this fleeting moment, allowing us to prolong that sense of awe.
